Diesel ASE Mechanic Training
Diesel mechanic programs are certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), a division of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence in seven possible subject areas:
* Diesel Engines
* Drive Trains
* Brakes
* Electrical/Electronic Systems
* Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
* Preventive Maintenance and Inspection
* Suspension and Steering
ASE Mechanic Training Certification
Upon NATEF's review, an evaluation team typically conducts an on-site inspection at mechanic school campuses, reviewing curriculum, teaching techniques, facilities, equipment and training aids, task sheets, tools, budget and safety measures.
Many automotive and diesel instructors are required to be ASE certified in the areas they teach. Some even obtain the honored distinction of being classified as multiple Master Technicians.
ASE Certification Requirements
To become ASE Certified, a person must have two years of work experience and pass ASE certification examinations. Some mechanic schools let their graduates substitute their degree training for one year of work experience toward ASE's two-year work requirement. In addition, most automotive schools will elp you prepare for taking the ASE examinations.
